At least one person dead after shooting at Atlanta airport

Authorities investigating the fatal shooting of a passenger at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said the gunshot that killed her on Friday was “accidental.”

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent-in-charge Archie Whiteside told reporters on Friday that authorities believed the shooting was an accidental discharge of a gun — he didn’t provide any other details.

The passenger, who has not been identified, is the ninth woman to be killed by gunfire at an airport, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The victim was in a bathroom with the female shooter, who she was living with, police said.

Police said the scene was clear Friday night at Gate C7 on the bottom level of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, a spokesman for the airport said. No other reports of gunshots have been received, the spokesman said.

WXIA-TV, quoting passengers, reported that a bomb squad checked out a backpack found near the airport gate where the shooting occurred. But there was no explosive device, according to a spokesman for the FBI.
