The thick mass poking out of Vice President Joe Biden’s colon was benign and has since become a polyp, it was revealed Tuesday.
Biden underwent the first stage of colonoscopy last week at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., CNN reports. The confirmation was made at a White House briefing after the president received a question on whether the Veep had been found to have a cancerous tumor.
Biden has been open with his fight against cancer and has received the National Medal of Cancer, which was presented to him by President Obama in November.
“As he is a survivor of prostate cancer, our very best wishes and prayers are with the Vice President and his family,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday.
Throughout the morning, Biden’s family, friends and medical team had declined to discuss the Veep’s prostate cancer diagnosis or the associated procedure.
As the Politico reports, his surgeon was not able to discuss specific details of the surgical procedure and the specific diagnoses reached by CNN.
Now, rumors of a carcinoma have turned into hopes that Biden’s tumor is benign.
