Adele has sent her fans into a frenzy when she managed to recreate her 2013 back-to-school reunion with a former art teacher on Facebook Live.
The 27-year-old singer was promoting the launch of her latest album, 25, in the US.
Writing on Instagram, she said: “Today is 25th anniversary of [sic] my first album, when I was 17, and I’m looking forward to taking the whole world to the school I went to.
“I realised there’s actually a girl named Lauren Howard from the school I went to that hasn’t spoken to me in six years, so if any of you are interested, please ‘friend’ her on Facebook so that we can both get together and celebrate this special day together, thank you.”
She posted an Instagram picture of herself shaking hands with Howard. “My heart felt like it was going to burst when I got to shake her hand,” she wrote. “You really did change my life and made the day of my 13 years old self the happiest and best day of my life.”
The post was shared 17,000 times in five hours, and re-posted more than a million times.
“Only a few of you know this but I am so incredibly grateful for having been given the gift of Lauren,” she said. “I would never have had the opportunity or support to go out and do what I’m doing if it wasn’t for her. I have a huge debt of gratitude to her and I adore her. Thank you so much. I promise I will keep it a secret though cause it’s so soon after the birth of my second child. It makes me so sad so the last thing I want to do is send you an email.”
The singer was at school in the Cayman Islands with her family when she was first discovered at age 15 by a music producer, who passed her on to Simon Cowell. They later signed her to his label Syco, and she entered the inaugural X Factor in 2006.
She scooped a British talent competition award for most outstanding female singer in 2013.
